3 Reasons Why Launching a Website Deserves a Party

I’m not going to lie. We will find just about any reason to have a party here at CWS. We’re big fans of cheese platters, fruit spreads, and red wine. Lately we’ve decided to get our clients in on the action, invite them over, and start having parties with a purpose: Celebrating the launch of their brand new websites. After the Possabilities and Common Cents launch parties we’d like to share why we think a party is 10 times better than a simple “You’re website is launched” email.

1) It becomes an experience rather than an event

A lot of time and planning goes into making a website. Depending how complex you want the website to be it can be 3 to 4 months or more before the process is complete. Not having a party to celebrate the completion seems so anticlimactic. We want to make the launch something to remember for our clients.

I think the quote from Renee Berg, Marketing & Development Director of PossAbilities sums up the experience nicely, “Your space, the atmosphere, your staff, the willingness to host, share the space and give tours – it made our new website reveal an ‘it’ moment”.

2) It gives the product a package

Companies like Apple understand the importance of packaging better than anyone else. Even before becoming CEO, Steve Jobs once shut done production of the boxes for their new line of computers which was already behind schedule. Why? Because the package was not a bright enough white. Steve knew that the opening of the package is part of the experience and can build anticipation for the product.

The same can be said for “opening” your new website. It’s pretty boring to just throw the website on the screen and say “Well, there it is”. The food, the friends, the games, the music, the gigantic launch button… they’re all part of the “packaging” that builds anticipation for that moment when you get to see the website for the very first time.

3) The website becomes your own

In marketing, placing a product in the hands of your customer can give them a sense of ownership. To launch your website, we let you get comfortable on the couch in front of the big screen. You get handed the mouse to click the giant launch button. This is almost like the passing of a torch. At that point it feels like the website has been passed on and you can truly call it your own.

It’s fun to have a party. When you can have a party with your friends and clients to make their website launch a special event…that's even better.
