If you’ve ever wandered around downtown Rochester on a Monday evening in the summer, you might have noticed a subtle bass pulsing through the air. No, it’s not an angry swarm of bees. What you’re probably hearing is the increasingly popular Zumba® on the Plaza.
Zumba® has been taking place on the Peace Plaza as a free event for five consecutive summers.
What? You’ve never zoomed?? Zumba® is a lively dance fitness program that mixes Latin flare and international music with easy-to-follow dance moves. The party-like aerobic workout was created by Colombian dancer Alberto “Beto” Perez in the 1990s, and has become a craze ever since.
On the Plaza, you will find yourself having a high time learning salsa, cumbia, reggaeton, and merengue moves to energizing music. A colorfully-dressed instructor is always buoyantly leading the class through the fun and modern steps. You will certainly forget that you’re exercising!
Nervous about dancing in front of other people? No need to be! Throughout the class all participants are watching the instructor for their next moves. The music, encouraging instructor, and invigorating atmosphere will help you break out of your shell.
Zumba® on the Plaza gives Rochester citizens and guests alike a great chance to enjoy the surroundings of the Peace Plaza while getting a fun workout in. The free event is possible only because of the generous sponsors who care about the community and promoting health, namely the Title Sponsor, Edge Fitness. The local athletic club gives out prizes including free class passes, t-shirts, and limited time memberships at their facility at every event.
