Kruse Lumber’s 100th Year - Calling All Artists Contest

2015 marks Kruse Lumber’s 100th year in business! To involve the community in their celebration, the CWS team worked with Kruse to launch CALLING ALL ARTISTS, a contest which challenges local artists to design and create art pieces made from building materials. Entrants have the chance to win cash prizes, up to $1,000, and all entrees will help to support a local nonprofit, ReStore and Habitat for Humanity.

Goals

The goals as designed by Kruse Lumber & the CWS Marketing team were to:

  • Engage local artists
  • Incorporate a building-material theme
  • Raise awareness for Kruse’s 100th year in business
  • Give back to the community

CWS Involvement

As this contest idea developed, CWS developer Eric Reynolds worked hard to build a customized contest form on the Kruse Lumber Facebook page. The form is designed so that entrants can easily sign-up and find more information.

Registration

After the art creations are finished and ready for submission, photos of the piece and its artist should be taken and submitted along with the entry form. Registration for the contest closes on September 11, 2015, and following that, a panel of judges will select three pieces to receive prizes.

Awards kruse-prizes

Selectors will look at materials used, as well as design statements and creative thinking as
they decide which will be awarded. First, second, and third place winners will receive $1000, $500, and $300 respectively, and three honorable mentions will each be awarded $50.

Giving Back

After the top pieces have been selected, all the pieces will be sold in an auction and the money raised will be donated to the Restore and Habitat for Humanity.

Sponsorship

CWS team member Tracy Lauritzen worked with Kruse Lumber to raise over $15,000 in sponsorship assistance from the company’s vendors. Kruse Lumbers greatly appreciates the ReStore, Marvin Windows & Doors, Heritage Millworking, Inc., Diamond Kote Pre-Finishing, and more for making this contest possible. A full list of sponsors is available on the Kruse Lumber “Calling All Artists” Facebook page.
