FREE Zumba on the Plaza with Sara Pennington!

Sara Pennington, CWS Office Administrator, will be leading Free Zumba Classes on the Peace Plaza Monday nights, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. beginning June 1st and ending September 28th. When not at CWS, she can often be found teaching Zumba classes at EDGE Fitness, as well as subbing at WOW, Empowered Wellness and the YMCA.

“I have such passion for Zumba. The original idea was to expose people to Zumba,” licensed instructor Sara Pennington said of her first year leading. She began in 2013. At the time, classes were held at noon on Tuesdays. In her second year, last summer, she changed the event’s time to 5:30 PM, and after some creative marketing and inviting several local instructors to lead with her, Sara saw “...triple the participation” in her FREE Zumba on the Plaza classes. Anywhere from 50-100 participants could be found dancing on the Plaza with Sara Pennington and the other instructors.

Going into her third year, Sara is just as excited about leading as she was before, and it seems that her energy is contagious. “There was a ton of positive feedback and some are asking if we can start in May next year!” This year, along with Sara are 20 local instructors who have stepped up to help with the FREE Zumba classes this summer.

Sara Pennington recognizes that these FREE Zumba on the Plaza classes would not be possible without the sponsorship of groups like the Title Sponsor EDGE Fitness, Inc. Other sponsors like HyVee South provide free bottled water for those participating in the FREE Zumba classes. Some more local sponsors include: CWS, Inc., City Looks Salon & Spa, Ah-sirt Fitness & Nail Studio (in Zumbrota), and the Rochester Downtown Alliance. Sara Pennington is still looking for contributions from anyone who would like to support it.

Some people may wonder why Sara Pennington offers FREE Zumba on the Plaza. What benefit does she get from it all? “I want people to fall in love with Zumba…It’s my way of contributing to the health of our community.”
