Launch: Electro Watchman Responsive Mobile Environment and Transfer to eCMS

For over 90 years, Electro Watchman Inc. (www.electrowatchman.com) has been installing security and fire protection systems for both commercial and residential customers. As a fourth-generation family owned business focused on quality solutions, they install trusted advanced technology at affordable values. Their service locations include: Bismarck, Fargo, Saint Paul, and Sioux Falls.

The Goal: Create a responsive mobile environment, so their customers have a better experience when visiting Electro Watchman Inc.’s website using a mobile phone. Electro Watchman Inc. also wanted to convert their website content management system from Contribute to eCMS.

Our Solution: Web developer, Joe Milbach, retrofitted a responsive framework to create a mobile website for Electro Watchman Inc and he converted more than 30 pages from Contribute to the eCMS.

“When applying a responsive template to an older site,” said Milbach, “I will update the interface of the desktop view and update all of the code on the back end.”

Some tweaks Milbach gave the site include: increasing the body font size for a better reading experience and increasing the white space to give it a more modern look. Milbach also created a better flow between desktop and mobile by grouping from fields (general contact information, reason for contacting, comment) together in the desktop view.

“Going from Contribute to eCMS has the biggest impact on the client,” said Milbach. “With Contribute they would need to call us to update navigation with updates needing to be done at the computer the Contribute application was installed on.”

Why do clients switch from Contribute to eCMS?

  • eCMS provides all of the tools the client needs to edit their site without unnecessary extras. The interface is clean and intuitive.
  • Updates to a website can be made from any computer with an internet connection, because eCMS is a web based application with a unique user login.
