Launch: Rochester Half Marathon Website

CWS congratulates Rochester Half Marathon on their new website!

What is Rochester Half Marathon?

Rochester Half Marathon is an annual race held each August in Rochester, Minnesota, celebrating its 30th year. This year, the half marathon is being sponsored by Mayo Clinic and is being called The Mayo Clinic Healthy Human Half Marathon and is part of THE MAYO CLINIC HEALTHY HUMAN RACE taking place August 22nd - 24th.

The 3-day event is being hosted this year by the Mayo Clinic, the Rochester Track Club and the City of Rochester. People of every age and ability level are encouraged to participate in this family-friendly weekend featuring: a half marathon, a 5K, the 1-mile Healthy Human Walk, a Kids’ Run, the Health & Wellness Expo, and special guest speakers.

As seen on the Rochester Half Marathon’s details page, “The Mayo Clinic Healthy Human Half Marathon has been designated as the Road Runners Club of America State Championship Half Marathon for the state of Minnesota!”

What Rochester Half Marathon was looking for…

In anticipation of drawing a large audience this year due to the race coinciding with Mayo Clinic’s sesquicentennial celebrations, the Rochester Half Marathon was seeking strong branding and direct call to actions. Rochester Half Marathon wanted sliding images front and center on their website. They also wanted their website to feature an active countdown to the big race day. Having the ability to update as new information became available was a must-have.

What CWS did for them…

While Jonny Yucuis kept the project on track, Dustin Hart served as the Web Developer and Web Designer on the project. Hart emphasized the group’s three main call-outs: Visitor Information, Race Information, and Volunteer Information on three buttons that use a new design technique. As one hovers an arrow (or similar icon) over the button the button’s picture fades from black and white to color. There are large sliding images and an active countdown prominently featured on their website, which incorporates a clean design. The medal given to race participants was used to create its logo displayed in the upper left hand corner of the website pages.

To meet their must-have of being able to update their website as new information was made available, CWS provided the Rochester Half Marathon with CWS’s intuitive content management system, eCMS. eCMS makes it easy for anyone to update their website. The Rochester Half Marathon can now add pages, update content, and upload or change images on demand through eCMS. They are able to preview those changes prior to posting them.

Congratulations to Rochester Half Marathon on their new website!
