Should Your Company Have a Style Guide?

By definition a style guide is a written document that protects your brand and company identity. It is a guide for acceptable colors, sizes, fonts and usages of your logos and typeface as well as any other graphics, messages or text that represent your company’s brand. It ensures that your outside vendors, as well as internal staff, use your logo and branding the way you intended.

Your company may have a design team or several departments that can get their hands on the brand and use it to produce marketing materials or communicate with customers. A style guide is a critical piece that will guide your company to produce visually consistent work.

Style Guides can be simple or very elaborate. Many companies choose to update their style guide annually. If you'd like to see an example of a style guide, feel free to check out our own CWS Style Guide.
