Trumped

I'm in Las Vegas this week at a real estate convention for Keller Williams Realty. You might wonder why an "internet guy" is at a real estate convention, I wondered myself for awhile. The short answer is that my wife is a realtor and I'm a supportive husband. However, it didn't take me long to realize that much of the content is universal knowledge that can be applied to any business.

One of my breakout sessions was with Kendra Todd, the winner of the 3rd season of the Apprentice. I found it very interesting that she no longer works for Trump. She owns her own Real Estate company and is doing quite well. Being a 27 year old, I have to admire her for "trumping" the Donald. Anyone who can work for Donald Trump for a year, and then decide that you are better off "on your own", has my respect. If you're interested in her new company and what she has going on, visit her official website. It's too bad she has used all Flash to create the website, we could have given her some pointers on creating a search engine friendly website. :)

Picture Perfect

So, we had our picture taken last week for the cover of the Rochester Area Chamber Newsletter. Apparently we're so cool that people want to read about us now. :) We were provided a copy of the final proof and all the guys thought it turned out quite well. Of course, the one female at the office seems to think that she (and only she) doesn't look good.

Do us a favor and post a comment on how nice our lovely Nina Perez looks in the pictures. Apparently we've given her such a hard time at the office that she no longer believes anything we say. Go figure?

Special thanks to Lower Photography for taking this picture and posting it on their website. We'll be sure to post the final magazine article as soon as it becomes available.

Writing is important

I love the Luddite at Wired News. Here's a quote from today's column:

The very nature of e-mail (which, along with first cousins IM and text messaging, is an undeniably handy means of chatting) encourages sloppy "penmanship," as it were. Its speed and informality sing a siren song of incompetent communication, a virtual hooker beckoning to the drunken sailor as he staggers along the wharf.

But it's not enough to simply vomit out of your fingers. It's important to say what you mean clearly, correctly and well. It's important to maintain high standards. It's important to think before you write.

Beer Rules

SuperBowl XL has come and gone, and if you were like me you enjoyed the commercials more than the game. In past years, most commercials were copied and then distributed via emails as part of our daily joke distribution. However, now we find that companies are "releasing" commercials via their website even before the superbowl. They have become such a commodity that companies will even release the commericals that "did not make it" to the SuperBowl for added exposure. How convenient for us (and them).

Budweiser came through (again) with the most humorous commercials. Without beer to entertain us, I'm afraid most of the evening would have been a let down. For example, the Burger King Whopperettes commercial left me thinking, "Someone should be fired, and quickly".

For your review, Google convenienently provides downloads of all the commercials for your viewing pleasure. A link is provided on their homepage for maximum convenience. And if that isn't enough, podcast versions are now available for your iPod.
